Your son’s wedding is getting closer and you have to prepare you father of the groom speech. Isn’t it that this is quite a difficult moment for you, especially if it’s your first wedding speech as a father and you’re not very good with words? Well, don’t worry, things aren’t as bad as some people make it look. I’m here to help you and in this article I’ll show you the exact template that you have to user at the wedding (click here for some speech examples). All you have to do is adapt it to suit your needs. But before we delve into that, I want to briefly show you the order in which the speeches will be held at the wedding.

  • The first speech will be the bride’s father’s
  • Then you will follow him

  • The best man is the last one

These 4 speeches are the traditional ones in most of the weddings, although in some of them, there are speeches and toasts given also by the mothers of the bride and groom, the bride herself and the maid of honor. Wedding Speech Order

If you have to give a speech at a wedding and it’s the first time, you’re probably a bit scared and you don’t know what to say, when or how to say it (click here for some father of the groom speech examples). But it’s ok, it’s not a big deal. At every wedding, there’s a certain speech order and in this article I’ll briefly present you the 4 main toasts at a traditional wedding. This is the typical wedding speech order, also there are some cultures where the father of the groom gives the first one, but usually the bride’s father is the one to open the wedding ceremony. Also, in some cultures, the mother of the bride also says a few words, although in most cases, she won’t give a toast at all.

Father of the Bride Speech

The first speech is held by the bride’s father. In most countries, the tradition says that the bride’s father has to pay for the whole wedding and that makes him the host, thus he will give the opening speech. He will start by thanking to all the people that came to the wedding. Then he will compliment his daughter (he MUST do this, because it’s the most important day of her life and she likes to be complimented) and tell some stories from her childhood. Then he will welcome the groom into his family and say a few nice things about him also. In the end, he will raise the glass and propose a toast for the bride and groom. He is then followed by the father of the groom toast. Continue reading >>

Wedding Speeches for the Father of the Bride

Although this blog is usually dedicated to father of the groom speeches, I decided to post a few articles about the bride’s father also. And maybe, in the future, I’ll post examples of speeches for all the speakers at a wedding. The day has finally arrived when you give away your daughter’s hand in marriage to a suitable man. It is a day of mixed emotions. On the one hand, you are happy for your daughter having found someone she loves and on the other hand, you are sad since she is leaving your house. Many people find it difficult on such occasions to make wedding speeches (father of the bride especially).

The bride’s father is usually considered to be the host for the wedding and it is a great moment when he is about to deliver his speech. Everyone, especially the bride is very eager to listen to what her father has to say.  (Also read our article on rehearsal dinner toasts). Continue reading >>
